This hat is mainly machine knit, but the decreases are worked by hand on circular needles or DPNs.

First you work ribbing flat, then transfer stitches for tubular knitting. Then you transfer stitches again for hand-knitting.

Decreases are worked with the same pattern by hand as on machine, but I found it easier and less tedious to hand-knit. You can also omit decreases and gather yarn at the end.

Gauge is easily adjustable -- you just want a multiple of ten stitches to cast on. The suggested yarn is the yarn I used, but you should be able to use any sock yarn.

Machine I used: Silver Reed SK10 and SR10 ribbing attachment.

Needles I used: Size 0 US needles, magic loop method.

The long version of instructions includes additional detail and some pictures, the shorter version has the pattern fully on one page, and much more brief instructions.
