A warm and comfortable headband that completely covers your ears is hard to find, and usually they’re quite plain. This one uses a classic diamond pattern design that is easy to follow and is good for a beginning knitter who is new to stranded colourwork.

Because the pattern only uses 140-150 yds, it’s a great pattern to use up leftover scrap fingering or light fingering yarn in contrasting colours. The double-layer design with the plain stockinette back also hides the loose strands from the colourwork design, keeping them from getting caught or tangled when the headband is worn.

This pattern uses Fleece Artist Merino Slim in National Parks: Sirmilik, NU and Manos del Uruguay Alegría in Peacock, but feel free to use any fingering or light fingering yarn.
