Ichi opens the 2017 Advent calendar: twenty-four patterns, one a day, to learn to count in Chinese. Each pattern bears the number of its day, written as a character.

The first is written 一: a single stroke, drawn from left to right. It reads “yī” in Chinese and “ichi” in Japanese, and gives the hat its name. Tomorrow, 二 lines up two, then 三 three: the first three numbers are counted stroke by stroke.

Like its character, Ichi holds in a single line: one cable that winds from the ribbing up to the crown, on an all-over textured background. Knitted in the round in one ball of De Rerum Natura “Gilliat”, it starts with a long 1/1 rib that folds up over the ears.

Ichi ouvre le calendrier de l’Avent 2017 : vingt-quatre modèles, un par jour, pour apprendre à compter en chinois. Chaque patron porte le nombre de son jour, écrit en caractère.

Le premier s’écrit 一 : un seul trait, tracé de gauche à droite. Il se lit « yī » en chinois, « ichi » en japonais, et donne son nom au bonnet. Demain, 二 en aligne deux, puis 三 trois : les trois premiers nombres se comptent trait par trait.

Comme son caractère, Ichi tient en une seule ligne : une torsade qui ondule des côtes jusqu’au sommet, sur un fond tout en texture. Tricoté en rond dans une pelote de De Rerum Natura « Gilliat », il se monte sur de longues côtes 1/1 qui se replient sur l’oreille.
