The companion shawl to Diminishing Returns, Incremental Growth uses the simple textures of stockinette and garter stitch to show off the beauty of a single skein of hand-dyed fingering weight yarn.

This shawlette is worked from the top down, starting with a garter tab, and finished with an elegant picot bind off. A separate photo tutorial for the garter tab is included with the pattern. To knit this pattern, you need to know how to:

  • do a provisional cast on,
  • knit and purl,
  • do directional increases (m1L and m1R),
  • pick up stitches along a garter edge (for the garter tab), and
  • cast on using the cable cast on.
