This pattern is provided in English and uses American crochet shorthand/abbreviations. This document spans 16 pages and includes instructive images to further help you pursuit your goal result.
Recommended Skill Level: Advanced beginner and above.
Pattern uses following crochet stitches: treble crochet (tr), slip stitch (sl st).
CONSTRUCTION OF THE TOP
The Island Mesh Top is worked from the top-down in a classic raglan construction. You’ll begin at the neckline, then work four increase points to shape the sleeves and body simultaneously. Increases are continued evenly until the desired bust measurement is reached.
Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated from the body. If you’re making the full-length long-sleeve top, work the sleeves first, then complete the body. If you’re making the cropped long-sleeve shrug, separate the body and sleeves and move straight on to the sleeves, skipping the body section completely.
MATERIALS:
- CROCHET HOOK 3 mm / UK 11
- YARN Super Fine (no. 1)
- SCISSORS
- TAPE MEASURE
- STITCH MARKERS
- TAPESTRY NEEDLE (optional for weaving in ends)
YARN RECOMMENDATIONS
- For the best drape and to maintain the intended look of the design, the Siren Shrug pattern works best with cotton or linen yarns. You can also use blends (e.g. 50% linen, 50% acrylic, etc.),
- I don’t recommend using yarns that are too colorful for this project, as the lace-like effect might get lost in the colors,
- To ensure it works well with the 3 mm crochet hook used in this design and to maintain the best drape of the shrug, I recommend using a yarn no heavier than Fine (no. 2) weight,
- I do not recommend using a crochet hook larger than 4,5 mm as it may affect the intended mesh look and lightweight feel of the top.
To make a sample tops in green, blue and pink, I’ve used 3 mm crochet hook and single strand of yarn: Super fine (no. 1) – Limol Soft Cotton 100%, 50g / 180 m in shades 76 Pea Green, 25 Lilac and 77 Blue Gray.
To make a sample top in brown, I’ve used 3 mm crochet hook and single strand of yarn: Super fine (no. 1) – DROPS Safran Cotton 100%, 50g / 160 m in shade 68 Coffee.
In total I’ve used approx. 650 m of yarn in total for a full-length long-sleeve top and 450 m of yarn for a cropped long-sleeve shrug.
