I am releasing this free pattern in celebration of FALL and my handmade leather yarn holder, which is now available in my Etsy shop! etsy.com/listing/1095768493 I dye the leather pieces and fit them together with high-quality brass hardware. It lets the yarn unravel while you work, like a yarn bowl but not fragile, and it covers the whole skein, keeping my yarn ball safe from toddler hands and dog hair. I designed this shawl while testing my yarn holder and…I love them both!

NEEDLES, NOTIONS, & YARN
To knit the shawl, I used one pair of US size 8 (5.0 mm) 36-inch circular needles. The shawl is worked flat—not in the round—but I used circular needles to accommodate its width. You may also want to use 2 stitch markers to put on either side of the center stitch, but this is optional. The yarn I used for the shawl pictured was two skeins (220 yards/100 grams per skein, 440 yards/200 grams per shawl) Cascade 220 in Auburn Heather, but any soft worsted-weight yarn would be a fine substitute.

CONSTRUCTION
The shawl is knit in four sections. The first section is a stockinette stitch tab which forms a small rectangle that is the center of the border. Section 2 is the stockinette stitch portion at the top of the shawl. Section 3 is the leaf-themed lace, and the final section is the lace edge.
