“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.” Mark 16:15

Knitting was introduced into the Japanese culture approximately two to three hundred years ago by the Europeans. Since then, they have taken this skill and put their own twist on it, literally. This Sampler Scarf will explore a few of the beautiful stitch patterns from the world of Japanese Knitting. They are found in the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomii Shida and translated into English by Gayle Roehm. Thank you for sharing your incredible talents with us!

This pattern has a very detailed definitions list, which includes most of the symbols used on the charted pattern. It is not written out line by line.

This scarf will begin and end with a fun ruffle, then move into beautiful stitch patterns that have been woven into a repeated pattern that will look the same, but different, with each rendition. (With no disrespect intended to the original designer, many of the stitch patterns used in this scarf have been modified to fit our purposes by me.) The stitch definitions are very thorough. They (stitch definitions) are both written and charted, and included in the introduction and pattern clues. The Japanese symbols and written definitions have been “Americanized” to the best of my ability, while attempting to maintain the beauty and character of the original symbolism and instruction. Pattern instructions are all charted with explanatory notes.

Support for this project will be found in the correlating thread in my group, Knitting in the Loft on Ravelry.com.
