I designed this versatile crochet shawl pattern to showcase the beautiful colours in a unique skein of hand-dyed sock yarn. One 100g (approximately 400m) skein of 4ply/3ply/fingering/sock weight yarn is all you need to make this lovely boomerang shawl. Because the pattern begins with a couple of stitches and gradually increases to form a wearable asymmetrical shape, you can just keep crocheting until you have used your whole skein of special hand-dyed yarn.

Because gauge is not particularly important for this pattern, you can use any yarn you like and a hook size that gives you a drape and feel that you’re happy with. Remember that blocking will make your shawl grow a bit, eliminate any tendency for the edges to roll and make it drape more softly.

This shawl pattern is in clear written form and includes a crochet chart. You can also choose whether to download the pattern written in US terms or UK terms.

I have rated this crochet shawl pattern as being suitable for an advanced beginner. However, I think this pattern would be enjoyable for any crocheter who is looking for a relaxing project and enjoys the satisfaction of transforming a fabulous hand-dyed skein of sock yarn or a vibrant yarn cake into a gorgeous accessory.
