This pattern is for a filet crochet Jerusalem Cross. This cross has had a couple of different meanings over time, and some say that it represents Jesus as the large cross in the middle, and the 4 gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in on the outsides. Others say that the center represents Jesus, and the others represent spreading the gospels to the 4 corners of the world. Still others say that it represents the 5 wounds of Christ. Whichever meaning you like best, they all help the observer to meditate on Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and some aspect of his life, death, and resurrection for us.

This pattern features both a chart, as well as written directions, and videos that explain the chainless foundation and how to read filet crochet if this is your first time. Since this pattern uses sport weight yarn, it’s a little easier to see than normal filet crochet that might use size 20 or 10 cotton thread, and is great for thos of you like me, who just don’t have the patience for that!
