Kaptah
Kaptah is an easy-going long cardigan for lazy moments.
Wide stripes give it a playful look.
I wanted to design a lazy oversize coat which can be your companion for many years to come. I named it after Kaptah, the faithful and witty servant in Mika Waltari’s book Sinuhe the Egyptian. Choose a size which gives you enough space and will make you feel comfortable.
Kaptah is there to serve you!
Kaptah is worked top down starting from the center back of the shawl collar. The collar ribbing continues in the front all the way to the hem. The stitches of the body are increased with raglan increases and some width is added to the collar at the same time. Buttonholes are worked simultaneously with the body and hidden in the front ribbing so you can choose later if you want to add buttons or not. You can button your coat with just a few buttons or close it all the way up for cold weather. Two pockets are worked on the sides. Body is almost straight with some increases added to side seams after the hips. The hem of the cardigan has a wide ribbing. Sleeves are wide and shorter than wrist length.
Kaptah can be layered with jeans or dresses. Or take it with you when you are going to have a quick dip in cold water, to warm you afterwards! Kaptah can be easily worn all year round as it is worked with a light and airy cotton-alpaca blend. The yarn creates a warm coat, but not too warm. Biches & Buches Le Coton & Alpaca was used for the design sample and substitutes are given in the pattern. Kaptah is a surprisingly quick knit despite the length of the cardigan as it is worked with 5 mm needle.
