Penger is a warm top down, yoked pullover with feminine details. It fits tightly on waist and has a slightly A-lined hem. The yoke has three welts in contrasting colour. The curved hem is created with short rows and is longer at the back. The neckline, hem and cuffs all have contrasting welts and are finished with a double knitted seam. The sleeve length is ¾.

My inspiration comes from the ancient techniques of terrassed cultivations which were used on different continents to grow rice and potatoes. The incas already knew how to benefit the steep hillsides for agriculture, and the Filippine terrasses for rice agriculture have been nominated as Unesco World Heritage. Many French vineyards even use terrassing to grow excellent wines.

I chose two colours for the pullover – Pollen Gold to represent earth and its power of growth and Cinder Glow to remind us of the delicious produce that mother nature gives us – such as deep, purple red wines. With the suitable technique – the engineered terrasses - represented by the welts, agriculture can support the earth and not exploit it. The appreciation of history and its practical inventions lets us find out that we have common roots even if we come from different corners of the world. Penger means a terrasse in Finnish.
