This amigurumi was inspired by the kashiwa mochi, a Japanese confection traditionally eaten on Children’s Day in Japan. It consists of a mochi filled with red bean paste and wrapped with an oak leaf, specifically the Japanese daimyo oak. As the oak does not shed its old leaves until new leaves have sprouted, it is seen as a symbol of the prosperity of one’s descendants. Hence, the kashiwa mochi represents the wish for the health, well-being and prosperity of one’s children.
