Keroppi
Bring Keroppi to life with his big round eyes, cheerful smile, striped outfit, and tiny black bow tie!
This listing is for a PDF crochet pattern containing instructions to make Keroppi. It is not a finished physical item or a kit. No materials are included.
The head, eyes, body, and limbs are crocheted separately and assembled. His red-and-white stripes are created through frequent colour changes while carrying the unused yarn. French knots add little fingers and toes, while pink cheeks finish his expression.
✨ What’s included
- Detailed written instructions with step-by-step photos
- Guidance for the striped body and layered eye construction
- Placement instructions for the face and separate pieces
- An illustrated techniques appendix
Skill level and techniques
Best suited to experienced crocheters. Although small, Keroppi combines continuous rounds, joined rounds, rows, frequent colour changes while carrying yarn, embroidery, and careful assembly.
Finished size
Approximately 7 cm tall and 7 cm wide when made with sport-weight yarn and a 2.0 mm hook. Size will vary depending on the yarn and hook selected.
Materials
- Sport-weight yarn in green, white, red, pink, and black. I used YarnArt Jeans.
- 2.0 mm crochet hook.
- Alternatively, use your favourite yarn in the colours above and a hook approximately 1 mm smaller than the size recommended on the yarn label. Aim for firm, even stitches that hold their shape and keep the stuffing from showing.
- Stuffing.
- Black safety eyes, approximately 2 stitches wide—I used 8 mm eyes.
- Stitch markers, sewing pins, and a tapestry needle.
- Optional fabric glue.
- Optional smaller hook for the cheeks—I used a 1.0 mm hook with split yarn.
Language and terminology
English, using US crochet terminology.
