kind reminder for pinktober
Kind Reminder is a small knitted keyring to remind us about breast cancer awareness.
I wanted it to be discreet rather than obvious – something you can carry on your keys or your bag without a second thought. And maybe, because it isn’t obvious, someone will ask: “what is that?” That’s my hope: that this little question opens a conversation you wouldn’t otherwise have had, and becomes a chance to remind someone to take care of themselves.
This pattern is free, and it always will be.
All I’d love to ask in return is one small thing: look around. Maybe there’s a friend, a neighbour, someone in your family or in your town going through breast cancer treatment. If you can, send them some love – a kind message, a warm meal, a ride to the hospital, an hour of your time, a small gift or some financial support, whatever feels right for you and for them.
It doesn’t have to be much – but sometimes we are able to do more than we think. :)
Let it be a tiny reminder:
- to take care of yourself – maybe it’s time for your next (or first) check-up?
- to remind someone you love to do the same,
- that there’s always someone who could use a bit of support.
And if you are (or were) going through treatment yourself, this one is yours just as much as anyone else’s. Kindness goes both ways. :)
There’s no perfect one here.
Make it in any skin tone. Put the little heart wherever you like – or leave it out. Add a scar, if that’s a story you want to tell. Every single one is good – just like every body.
Details:
- yarn: any yarn you like – leftovers are perfect (sample: DROPS Saga)
- needles: DPNs (or one long circular needle for Magic Loop)
- time: less than one evening
- level: adventurous beginner
- languages: English and Polish
It’s part of my #nopressurepatterns series: small, simple projects made with the yarn you already have, never expected to be perfect.
A few words about sharing:
You don’t need to tag me or credit me when you make one – just make it, give it away, keep it close. Please don’t redistribute or share the pattern as your own.
If you’d like to sell finished keyrings – please do! And if you can, consider giving part of what you earn to a breast cancer foundation or to someone going through treatment.
Take care of yourself, and of each other.
