a tiny, no-pressure chicken worked in the round, perfect as a keychain, bag charm, small gift, or worry buddy.

pocket chicken is a tiny, no-pressure knitting project designed to be made from yarn scraps and finished in one relaxed evening.

worked in the round from the bottom up, this little chicken uses Judy’s Magic Cast On, a small short-row section, simple shaping, and a three-needle bind-off. the comb, tail, legs, beak, and eyes are added afterwards with a few easy embroidery stitches.

the short-row section can be skipped, so the pattern is still approachable if you are not comfortable with wrap and turn.

pocket chicken is perfect as:

  • a keychain
  • a bag charm
  • a tiny handmade gift
  • a desk companion
  • a little worry buddy
  • a quick stash-busting project

the sample was made with DROPS Nepal and 3 mm needles, but you can use almost any yarn with needles slightly smaller than those recommended on the label.

there is plenty of room to make your chicken your own. use natural colors, bright leftovers, add a dramatic comb, a fuller tail, sleepy eyes, bead eyes, embroidered details, or anything else your chicken seems to need.

no two pocket chickens have to look the same.

this pattern is part of my #nopressurepatterns collection - small projects made for relaxing, experimenting, and enjoying the process without worrying about perfection.
