Thank you so much for checking out Kira the Koala’s crochet pattern. It means so much to me!
Kira the Koala is an adorable amigurumi who loves gardening out in the sunshine. She is small in size but mighty in personality.
The crochet pattern for Kira the Koala is ideal for intermediate crocheters and is written in US terms in English only.
She’s a small amigurumi and comes with three accessories: a hat, watering can, and eucalyptus stem.
The pattern is predominantly worked in continuous rounds, except for a couple of sections including her ears and some parts of the accessories that are worked back and forth in rows.
Kira the Koala’s arms and legs are also movable (can swivel back and forth alongside the body), and detailed instructions are also included in the pattern.
What you need
- DK yarn (see yarn)
- Crochet hook size 2.5 mm (US C/2)
- Stuffing
- Needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- 2 x Stitch markers
- Safety eyes 6mm (Option 1)
- Black embroidery thread (Option 2)
Yarn
I used Rico Design Ricorumi DK 100% Cotton (25g = 57.5 m / 63 yds per ball) in the following colours:
- Blue (29 grams = 67 m/ 73 yds)
- White (3 grams = 7 m / 7.5 yds)
- Black (1 gram = 2.3 m/ 2.5 yds)
- Yellow (8 grams = 18.5 m/ 20 yds)
- Pink (12 grams = 27.5 m / 30 yds)
- Orange (14 grams = 32 m / 35 yds)
- Green (1 gram = 2.3 m / 2.5 yds)
- Brown (3 grams = 7 m / 7.5 yds)
Gauge
Gauge is not required for this pattern, however for reference my gauge for the amigurumi was as follows:
14 sc stitches on 5 cm / 1.96 “
14 rows on 5 cm / 1.96 “
Amigurumi Size
Using the yarn stated above with a 2.5 mm (US C/2) hook and the amigurumi turned out to be 14 cm / 5.5 “ high (excluding hat) and 5cm / 1.96 “ wide across the largest part of the koala’s body. Please note: I do tend to crochet quite tightly, so your Kira the Koala may turn out larger.
Additional Pattern Information
- Crochet skill level: Intermediate
- Pattern terms: US in English only
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing appearing through your stitches.
- Working in rounds: The majority of parts within this pattern are worked in rounds, however some sections of the pattern also require you to work back in forth in rows. This is stated clearly throughout the pattern.
- Colour changing: Colour changes are required to create Kira’s T-Shirt on the body and legs.
- Movable Limbs: Kira’s arms and legs are attached in a way that allows you to move them back and forwards against the body. This allows her to either stand up (leaning against something) or sit down by herself. It’s a great extra that’s fun for the kids and detailed instructions with photos are including in the assembly section of the PDF pattern.
- Eyes: In this pattern you have the choice of using safety eyes or embroidered eyes. Instructions are included for both. Please note that safety eyes are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
