This cozy cowl combines classic knitting with a fun touch of crochet to create beautiful KniChet stitches that make the variegated yarn pop against a solid background. Don’t let the crochet part intimidate you—it’s very simple, and no prior crochet experience is needed. The pattern includes clear instructions to guide you through every step.

It’s also a wonderful stash-busting project, making great use of leftover DK-weight yarn while creating a striking, textured fabric.

Needles & Notions
4.0 mm (US 6) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long for the Magic Loop method, or double-pointed needles if preferred.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
1 stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Size 3 crochet hook for creating the KniChet stitches.
Yarn Information

The sample was knitted using DK-weight yarn in both solid and variegated colorways.

Each 100 g of DK-weight yarn measures approximately 210 meters (230 yards).

Total yarn required: Approximately 110 g (231 m / 253 yds)

Variegated yarn: Approximately 44 g (92 m / 101 yds)
Solid yarn: Approximately 66 g (139 m / 152 yds)

Gauge: 20 stitches and 28 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette Stitch, measured unstretched.

Finished Measurements: Approximately 25” (63.5 cm) circumference and 10” (25.5 cm) height, measured unstretched and unblocked.
