At the beginning of the year, the ladies of my local knit night group asked me to show them how to knit a folded-brim hat. There was enough interest to host a little workshop, so I started thinking about what to knit. Since it was my own workshop, I felt it was more appropriate to knit something that was also my own design and what is more appropriate for knitters than a beanie that features five awesome knitting quotes?

The idea of the ‘Knit Happens Beanie’ popped up in my head based on my recently found love for stranded color work knitting. I thought teaching how to make a folded-brim hat by itself was a little too simple. I like to challenge myself in my knits and I like to have options. So next to learning how to make a folded brim, the ‘Knit Happens Beanie’ is made up from five individual charts that can either all be combined to make a serious knitted statement beanie or it can be individualized by combining as many charts as wanted… options galore!!!
The beanie is made up from individual sections that read: ‘Knit Happens’, ‘Yarnaholic’, ‘Knitting Takes Balls’,’Knit & Purl’ and ‘SABLE’ (Stash accumulation beyond life expectancy). The hat can either be knitted in full glory, as it can be seen in the pictures or it can be individualized by only knitting certain panels.

Yarn:
Cascade Superwash 220, app. 200g, up to 7 colors (I made a very colorful version using light blue, orange, green, yellow, pink, magenta and red)
OR 200g of DK yarn

Needles:
US4/3.5mm circular needles 24″ (for ribbing)
US6/4mm circular needles (for color work)
US4/3.5mm DPN’s (for crown)
3.5mm/4mm crochet hook for provisional cast on
10 stitch markers

The pattern comes with written instructions, as well as charted pages. There is one page with all charts combined to make the fully illustrated beanie, as well as several individual pages with stand-alone charts for individualized beanie designs.

Since we all find ourselves in strange and uncharted times thanks to COVID 19, I would like to do something special with the pattern sales. I am a big supporter of helping small businesses and spending local. It is more important now than ever to make sure that our loved ones are safe but also that our economy keeps going. 49% of all businesses in the US are made up from small businesses. We cannot afford to see them go. Just imagine what your city would look like without independently owned coffee shops, restaurants and your LOCAL YARN SHOP!!! So, I am going to donate 50% of the pattern sales to my LYS, Love & Stitches in Whitesboro, NY. I love that little shop and all the people in it. Please help to make sure they’ll be able to keep their doors open.
I will also offer the same deal for my other self-published pattern, the ‘Tom’s Horseshoe Socks’. The sock pattern is available in my Ravelry shop.

In addition, Lauren, the owner of Love and Stitches, offered to give a 10% discount on the Cascade 220 Superwash yarn needed for knitting the beanie! Woohoo! HERE is the link to her website. Please use the code Knithappens10 at checkout.

I hope I could interest you in casting on this little beauty. The color and pattern variations of this beanie are endless. You can have so much fun making several beanies from this pattern without having to knit two that look alike!

Please remember me when you start and finish your project. Please tag me on social media using @thejewelknitter and #knithappensbeanie. I would LOVE to see your creations!

In the meantime, please be safe! Stay inside, talk to your loved ones on a video chat, only run to the grocery store when you have to and please consider other people. Don’t buy in bulk and share your toilet paper!!!
