Ja visst gör det ont när knoppar brister.
Varför skulle annars våren tveka?
Varför skulle all vår heta längtan
bindas i det frusna bitterbleka?
Höljet var ju knoppen hela vintern.
Vad är det för nytt,
som tär och spränger?
Ja visst gör det ont när knoppar brister,
ont för det som växer
och det som stänger.
-Karin Boye

Yes, of course, it hurts when buds are breaking.
Why else would the springtime falter?
Why would all our ardent longing
bind itself in frozen, bitter pallor?
After all, the bud was covered all the winter.
What new thing is it that bursts and wears?
Yes, of course, it hurts when buds are breaking,
hurts for that which grows
and that which bars
-Karin Boye, English translation by David McDuff

Needles to knit a small circumference to obtain gauge
The pattern can easily be worked with longer circulars i.e. 80 cm / 32”, double-pointed needles or 23 cm / 9” circulars.

Moods of Colors True Corriedale (80% Corriedale wool, 20% nylon), approx. 400m / 440 yds per 100g

MC: 300 (330, 360) metres / 330 (360, 400) yds
CC: 160 (180, 200) metres / 175 (200, 220) yds
Note that metreage can differ depending on the length of the sock.

The socks are knit with a tight gauge to create a durable fabric.
36 sts and 45 rnds = 10x10 cm / 4x4” in stocking stitch after blocking
38 sts and 60 rnds = 10x10 cm / 4x4” in pattern after blocking
Make sure both rnd and stitch gauge is correct. That will ensure your socks fit.
For the sample, needle size 2.25 mm / US1 was used to obtain gauge.
I knit with a tight gauge, so you might need to go down a needle size to obtain gauge.

Small (Medium, Large)
The socks are designed to have negative ease around the foot of 0-3 cm / 0-1.5”. That means that the socks are designed to fit feet with a circumference around the ball of the foot of
14.5-18.5 (18-22, 21-25) cm / 5.75-8.5 (8.25-9.75, 9.5-11)”
The length of the sock is adjustable.
