This hat is flat-knitted in the around-the-head direction and seamed. The shaping and the mix of stripe patterns are achieved with simple short rows that do not require wraps (except in one place). There’s a simple raised band that is done with slip stitches and an optional decorative chain of stitches that is added at the end. The pattern includes instructions for making the little leaf-and-stem topper, but a pompom or other decoration could just as easily be used.
