These mittens were inspired by textiles and patterns of Japan.

The pattern is written for shaping and charted for the colorwork. It is available for 7”, 7.5”, and 8” circumferences. Each width is available in two lengths. It has an offset gusset thumb

Yarn Details:
The 7.5” x 7.5” mittens uses approximately 268yds/245m fingering weight yarn in two colors. The largest mittens, 8” x 8”, will use about 15% more, the smallest mittens, 7” x 6.5”, will use about 13% less.

The sample mittens were worked in two colors of Knit Picks’ Palette.
Jay –148yds/135m
White –120yds/110m

You can use a third color for the cuff and top of the thumb if you wish.

I do not recommend using yarns with lots of quick color changes in them as you will lose the colorwork pattern. I like solids and heathers best for this type of busy colorwork.
