March 2019 - a small typo has been noted on p13, section 7 on Row 118 The last sentences should read:

Insert the LH needle, from the front, into the 4th, 5th & 6th sts – lift together, over the 1st, 2nd & 3rd sts. Place back on LH needle. Move the other 3 sts back to the LH needle and purl across these 6sts.] Repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3.

  • Kyra is a top down crescent shawl inspired by Herbert Niebling’s ‘Christel’ doily. The leaf motif from the original is adapted to create overlapping leaves and give the shawl more depth, and the crescent shape is completed with the addition of wings on either side. The stitch pattern at the bottom edge has been completely reworked to maintain the proportions of the shawl and remove the excess fabric of the original doily.

  • Needles & Notions: Circular needles in a size appropriate for the yarn weight. Size 2.75 to 4 mm (US 2 to 6) and lengths up to 140 cm (60”) were used by the test knitters. Cable needle of same size and a crochet hook of 1 mm or less for bead placement. Beads: The pattern configuration uses 2027 beads, but you can bead to your taste or not at all.

  • Gauge & Size: This shawl is designed as a large wrap to give you a good warm hug - because that’s what friends are for. Gauge is not as important. Across the test group shawl size varied from a wingspan of 50” and depth of 26” up to 86” with depth of 31”.

  • Skill level: Intermediate or experienced lace knitter Each section of the shawl construction is broken down into 3 or 4 charts. Each section contains the sequence for knitting each chart.

  • Test information: The pattern has been test knitted by a wonderful group of friends:
