LaceCircleDance is designed as a large statement rug, but the pattern can also be made in a smaller size by choosing a lighter braided cord.

The written pattern is fully in English. A step-by-step video tutorial is also included to demonstrate the crochet process visually.

Intermediate

Basic crochet skills are required. The pattern uses chains, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitches, increases, decreases, and textured elements.

More difficult techniques are demonstrated several times in the video tutorial.

MATERIALS

Main version – approx. 80.7 in (205 cm):

• Braided cord
• 10 mm crochet hook
• Approx. 2,200 m (2,406 yd) of cord

The original large rug was made with 5 mm polyester braided cord with a core.

Smaller version – approx. 57.5 in (146 cm):

• Lighter braided cord
• 7 mm crochet hook
• Approx. 1,900 m (2,078 yd) of cord

The original smaller rug was made with 4 mm polyester braided cord without a core.

CHOOSING A CORD

You do not need to use the same cord brand, exact diameter, or a cord with a core.

The most important characteristic is the construction of the cord. Look for a BRAIDED cord rather than a soft twisted macramé cord. Twisted macramé cords behave differently when crocheted and will not produce the same structure and stitch definition.

Depending on the manufacturer and country, a suitable material may be sold as braided cord, polyester cord, crochet cord, or simply cord.

The diameter stated by the manufacturer is only a general reference. Different cords labeled with the same diameter can vary considerably in actual thickness and density.

For the main version, a useful reference is the weight of the original cord:

• 3.8 g per meter
• 380 g per 100 m
• 13.4 oz per 109 yd

Your substitute does not need to match this number exactly. A somewhat lighter or heavier braided cord can also be used.

Please keep in mind that changing the cord may affect the finished size, texture, and total amount of cord required.

The stated cord requirements are based on the original materials and should be treated as a reference when using a substitute.
