Lake Oswego Market Bag
Yarn: Cascade Ultra Pima Paints (220 yards, 100g, color # 9799 Sepia) or similar DK or light worsted weight cotton yarn of about 220 yards
Needles: US 9 circular 24” & US 8 DPNs or preferred needles for small diameter knitting
Gauge: While not very important in a market bag, gauge will affect the total yardage used and finished dimensions. The gauge is 3 sts and 4 rows per square inch in garter stitch as found in the handles as knit in rounds 1-6.
Dimensions: The bag is 15” wide at the widest part and 12” long when empty, not including the handles. The handles measure 7” tall when the bag is laid flat.
Named after the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market, which offers fresh produce, handcrafts, and music in the summer, this bag has room to carry a lot. It’s best for big bulky items like Swiss chard, carrots, peaches, coffee, and summer squash, as seen in the picture. The stitch pattern expands and stretches easily. The market bag has a carefree look perfect for the weekend market or everyday. The pictured yarn is subtly multicolored with hues of tan, golden yellow and crisp white. Multicolored yarns add more interest to the finished bag; even the boldest colorways will work nicely with the simplicity of the pattern.
