Pattern is worked flat completing front and back panels separately. Panels then seamed together using slip stitches along 3 sides, while both handles are made separately and sewed at the end.
Pattern includes 2 length options for the handle, one that’s suitable for handheld tote bag and one that is suitable for shoulder tote bag.
Letter R followed by number, for example R1, or R2-9 indicates row number(s).
Number in the brackets at the end of each row indicates number of total stitches for that row.
From * to * is a repeat shown number of times.
Ch 1 made in between Sc stitches counts as a stitch.
Ch 1 made at the end of the row does not count as a stitch and it is used to start next row only.
Changing colour do not finish yarns as you can carry them up the side to reduce tails that will need to be weaved in later. Primary colour does not need to be finished off at all, while secondary colour needs to be finished off and rejoined only after every 8-row repeat in main colour.
It is highly suggested to sew in lining to add structure and durability, and this can be done both by hand or sewing machine. See instructions at the end of this document.
