Larkspur drapes like a dream and knits like a flex. Chevron cables sweep across the front while the back is knit in smooth stockinette, so the knitting stays interesting and the fit is effortless. The sleeves widen elegantly to the cuff and the whole piece moves beautifully with the body.

The shaped boatneck sits right below the collarbone, fully shaped front and back at the neckline and shoulders and finished with a sleek i-cord edge. It’s a transitional piece that works from early fall through spring, equally at home over linen trousers on a Friday night as it is with jeans on a Sunday morning.

Design Details

The neckline is the detail that makes this sweater. Truly shaped at both the front and back, it sits exactly where it should and stays there, finished with a modern i-cord edge. The front cable panel does the heavy lifting visually while the stockinette back rewards you with easy knitting. Wide, gently flared sleeves give Larkspur its signature drape and make it one of those pieces you’ll wear on repeat.

Pattern Highlights

  • Boatneck neckline with adjustable fit
  • Statement front cable panel, easy stockinette back panel
  • Customizable neckline and body length
  • Fingering weight sweater for layering

Construction Overview

Larkspur is worked flat from the top down. The neckline and shoulders are shaped with short rows. The front is worked with the cable panel while the back is knit in easy stockinette. After the body panels are complete, the sides are joined with mattress stitch.

Sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round shaped to the icord cuff. The neckline is finished with a knitted i cord that can be adjusted by the number of stitches picked up.

Yarn Notes

We knit our sample in Yarn Nouveau Yak Silk in Faded Leaves. It has fluid drape and a gentle sheen that highlights the cable panel while allowing the fabric to move easily across the shoulders.

Tonal or solid fingering weight yarns show the cable texture especially well.
