Ridgeline Vest is a chic little waistcoat worked in allover ribbing for a sleek, tailored silhouette with clean lines and strong texture. It layers easily over tees, dresses, and tanks, making it an easy favorite for transitional weather.
The fabric has structure while still feeling lightweight, and the close fit keeps the shape intentional and sharp. It’s simple, wearable, and designed to slot naturally into everyday outfits.
Design Details
Ridgeline has a close, shaped fit that follows the body and highlights the vertical rib texture. The clean front opening and minimal neckline keep the look modern while the button placement gives flexible styling options.
The allover ribbing becomes the visual focus, creating texture without a defined motif. It works just as well worn open as it does buttoned, and layers easily without bulk.
Pattern Highlights
- Bottom-up construction keeps the ribbing consistent and clean
- Vertical rib texture creates a sharp, tailored look
- Layers easily over everyday outfits
- Buttonholes allow flexible styling
Construction Overview
Ridgeline is knit seamlessly from the bottom up in 1x1 ribbing with a tidy i-cord selvedge. Casting on with a smaller needle helps prevent flare at the hem.
After splitting for the underarm, each front is worked separately to the shoulders. The back is worked last and the shoulders are joined using a 3-needle bind-off.
Short rows shape the shoulders for fit, and three buttonholes are incorporated into the front opening.
Hot tip for crisp ribbing: a gentle tug after every knit and especially every purl helps keep stitches neat and even.
Yarn Notes
We knit our sample in Concept Cotton-Merino by Katia. The blend gives the ribbing structure and memory while still keeping the fabric soft and comfortable to wear.
Fiber: 70% cotton / 30% wool
Yardage: 115 yds / 50 g
DK weight yarns with some elasticity will give the best results. Wool blends, cotton-merino blends, and other structured DK yarns are especially well suited to this fabric.
