Layton Shawl
Layton is an asymmetrical triangle shawl knit with only one skein of fingering-weight yarn. Only a few stitches are cast on and the shawl is gradually increased on a diagonal until you reach the end of your skein and bind off. It’s a great way to use a single skein in a simple, quick knit with a little bit of lace to add interest to your knitting.
The sample was knit with one skein of Lovejoy Fibers sock in the color Vanilla Twist with 463 yards to 100 grams. My skein actually weighed in at 102 grams and I used it all. The pattern includes instructions for skeins with less yardage as well.
Measurements - 70in/178cm wingspan by 14in/36cm deep.
Yarn: One skein Lovejoy Fibers Sock in colorway Vanilla Twist with 463 yards to 100 g. Or any fingering weight yarn with similar yardage.
Needles: US 6/4.00 mm circular needle with 32inch/80cm cable. Additional DPN in 2 sizes larger than main needle to use while working the bind off.
Notions: Yarn needle for weaving in ends, blocking pins and mat.
Gauge: 20 sts and 40rows in garter stitch to 4 in/ 10 cm square. Gauge is not crucial for this project but differences in gauge will affect finished measurements and change yarn requirements.
