This pattern was original published as part of the 6 Muffatee Mystery Knit Along.

This pattern is based on a pair of late 18th early 19th century stockings in the collection of the Goschenhoppen Historical Society, as published in Rural PA Clothing by Ellen J. Gehret. This pattern predates the beginning of the proliferation of written knitting patterns and was most likely shared by word of mouth or via knitted samplers. I’ve added some tips for learning the pattern and reading your work.
