Inspired by the coastlines of Northern Michigan, of freshwater lakes where you can see to the bottom but not the other side. This sweater celebrates the origin of the yarn it was knit with. Hailing from Leelanau County, Michigan, where winter cottages invite you in to warm embracing fires and cool black summer nights are enjoyed on a campsite with friends. A backdrop of memories knit up into a boxy, wear-anywhere pullover.

With a simple raglan silhouette and classic Setesdal stitch pattern, Leelanau is a sweater for a variety shapes and sizes. Sixteen sizes, ranging from infant (3-6 months) to adult (up to 60” chest circumference), this sweater is sure to be one you come back to. My desire is that this sweater can be a wardrobe staple not just for you, but also for others who are deserving of your hand knits!

Leelanau is knit seamlessly from the bottom up.  Sleeves are knit in the round and then joined to the body with a raglan yoke. In order to shape the front neckline, stitches are bound off in center front and the final inches are knitted flat before binding off around the collar. Collar stitches are picked up to knit a folded neckband for a polished finish.

Although adult sizes are written with a women’s body in mind, pattern can be easily adjusted for a men’s sweater. Start with appropriate chest measurement size and add length through the body and arms as desired (don’t forget to have extra yarn for adding length!).

Sweater is intended to be knit with positive ease. For child or men’s sizes I typically knit 1-3” / 2.5-7.5 cm of positive ease. For women, around 4-8” / 10-20 cm for a boxy look. The table shows finished garment measurements. Choose a size based on your chest measurement + desired ease. Model’s sweater has 8” / 20 cm positive ease.
