Lemon zing socks were inspired by bright summer sunshine and relaxing in the garden drinking lemonade! The socks combine a fun but simple lemon themed colourwork section with stockinette stitch stripes for quick knitting. The pattern includes instructions for three sizes:

S: 56st cuff – EU36-38 / UK 3-5 – approx. foot length = 22cm / 8.5 inches
M: 64st cuff – EU39-42 / UK 5.5-7 – approx. foot length = 24cm / 9.5 inches
L: 72st cuff – EU41-44 / UK 7.5-10 – approx. foot length = 27cm / 10.5 inches

Foot length can be adjusted to fit your foot exactly by performing more or fewer rounds of plain stockinette stitch before knitting the toe.

(Photos show socks knitted in size S on size EU38 feet.)

This is an intermediate pattern, suitable for bold beginners upwards. Some experience of knitting stranded colourwork would be useful.

Lemon zing socks are knit in the round from the cuff down either using 9 inch circulars, double pointed needles or the magic loop method - whichever you prefer. They feature a colourwork section on the ankle, stripes throughout the foot and a double eye of partridge reinforced heel flap and gusset heel construction.

Needles: 2.25mm 9” circular needles OR 2.25mm larger circular needles for magic loop method OR 2.25mm double pointed needles (or size to meet gauge).

Yarn:
Main colour: approx. 24-38g / 96-152m / 105-167 yards of 4ply sock yarn
Contrast colour 1 (for lemons and stripes): approx. 20-30g / 80-120m / 88-132 yards of 4ply sock yarn
Contrast colour 2 (for cuff, heel, toe & colourwork): approx. 14-20g / 56-80m / 62-88 yards of 4ply sock yarn
Contrast colour 3 (for leaves & colourwork): approx. 2-3g / 8-12 / 9-14 yards of 4ply sock yarn

NOTE: Exact yarn requirements will depend on the size knitted and your tension. If you plan to increase the foot or ankle length you will also need more main colour and contrast colour 1 yarn.

Sample socks shown are knitted using Scheepjes Metropolis 4 ply in shade 030 - Toulouse for the main colour, shade 040 - Dhaka for contrast colour 1, shade 062 – Valencia for contrast colour 2 and shade 028 - Vancouver for contrast colour 3.

Notions: scissors, 2x stitch markers (one different to mark beginning of round), tapestry needle, tape measure

Gauge: 29 stitches and 48 rows for a 10x10cm square in stockinette stitch.
