Want a reversible, versatile scarf? Here it is!

This scarf is knit flat in one piece and starts with a provisional cast on in the middle. The scarf is knit sideways (longways) in garter stitch. There are no yarn tails to weave in as the yarn tails are captured in the tassels. One piece of yarn is used for each stitch row allowing the knitter to mix up the colors in a variety of combinations. The provisional cast on in the middle allows for a consistent tension from the bind off rows on the sides of the scarf.

Difficulty level: advanced beginner

Skills: Provisional crocheted cast on, bind off, knit stitch, managing a large number of stitches.

For this pattern, I used worsted weight acrylic yarns. Almost any yarn fiber can be used, but I suggest that the fiber type and weight be the same for ease of cleaning and to match the pattern results. Smooth yarns are best. It was a great stashbuster. project! I used a 40 inch circular needle to manage the large number of stitches.

A provisional crochet cast on was used for this pattern.
However, there are many knitted or crocheted provisional cast ons that would work. A link to the provisional cast on I used is in the pattern instructions.

So… get out your yarn and needles and get a scarf on.
