Light as a Feather Scarf
The Light as a Feather Scarf can be tied and worn like a cowl, as a head scarf, or draped over the shoulders with a pin. It’s up to you!
The techniques used in this pattern includes intarsia (optional), brioche, stacked stitches, some basic math, a little bit of randomization either with Assigned pooling yarn or with the use of dice rolls, short rows, and a picot bind off.
This is an advanced knitting pattern.
Yarn & Yardage
Fingering weight – 5 colors
AP/MC1 - ~52 yards/48 meters
(AP yarn may be subbed out for non-AP yarn for the dice randomized and planned placement versions of the scarf, therefore I will use “AP/MC1” to denotes this color)
MC2 - ~71 yards/65 meters
CC1 - ~61 yards/56 meters
CC2 - ~67 yards/61 meters
CC3 - ~78 yards/71 meters
The above lengths are the greatest amounts of yarn used by testers, but due to the nature of the randomization of the pattern, I cannot guarantee the same amounts of yarns will be used. Please be prepared to be adventurous with your colors!
Needles
1 – US size 5 interchangeable circular needle (~14” but length is not important)
2 – extra cables, ~14” (for holding and transferring stitches)
1 – extra needle (close to the recommended needle size)
or
3 - US size 5 circular needles (the needles holding the extra stitches can be smaller sizes)
Notions
~10 - Lightbulb stitch markers or easily removeable markers (matching color/shape pair will be helpful when placing markers for the Feathery Motif)
1 – tapestry needle for weaving in ends
1 – flexible measuring tape
Gauge
19 stiches x 23 rows = 4 in/10 cm in two color brioche
23 stiches x 36 rows = 4 in/10 cm plain stockinette
Dimensions
Varies based on person (for a person with a head measurement of 22 inch in circumference the scarf will measure ~36 inches in wingspan and ~12 inches in depth)
