I love swirly and curvy shapes in nature and man-made items. This cowl and its coordinating Little Lovely Hat highlight a twisted and clustered stitch pattern set into a twisted rib background. Use a solid or tonal yarn for best results.

This pattern includes both written and charted directions. German short rows shape this cowl into a bandana shape. Learn something new as you try an i-cord cast-on for a beautifully finished top edge.

Finished Size: approx. 22” (56 cm) across at top edge, 11.5” (29 cm) deep at front, 6” (15 cm) deep at back

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn such as Malabrigo Rios, 210 yds (192 m)
  • US Size 7 (4.5 mm) 16” (41 cm) and DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • US Size 9 (5.5 mm), any length needle (for bind-off)
  • Stitch markers (1 unique for BOR)
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
20 sts = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch (A flexible fabric will create a cowl with more drape. Exact gauge is not crucial, but it will affect size and yardage requirements.)
