ENGLISH

Llume Cardigan is a very light and airy V-neck cardigan. It is worked from the top down, beginning with the back and fronts worked flat. Once the required armhole depth has been reached, the pieces are joined and the body is worked to the end. Finally, the sleeve stitches are picked up and these are knitted in the round. The edge of the neck and button bands are worked at the same time as the rest of the body so it’s not necessary to pick up stitches at the end for those.

MATERIALS

  • 5 mm (US 8) circular needles for the body and sleeves. Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the same gauge as the pattern – see below.

  • 4.5 mm (US 7) (or a size smaller than the main needles) for the ribbing.

  • Markers, tapestry needle and scrap yarn, stitch holders or extra cables to put stitches on hold.

  • 4 or 5 buttons, approximately 22-25 mm / 7/8 - 1” in diameter.

SIZES

1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7) (8, 9)

How to choose your size: measure your bust circumference, add the ease recommended below (i.e. 20-30 cm / 8-12 inches) and find the finished circumference at bust measurement below that is closest to that figure. Make sure your gauge matches the one given below to ensure your finished garment will be the same dimensions.

GAUGE

16 stitches and 22 rows in 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch with the main needles, worked flat, after blocking.

YARN

2 strands held together throughout. I have used fingering + mohair but, with the gauge given for this pattern, it’s possible to use many other combinations, such as 2 lace threads (which will be a very light airy cardigan with a very open stitch), 2 fingering, 1 sport or DK + 1 mohair or even 1 single thread of worsted or Aran weight yarn. The only difference will be how dense or sheer the final fabric will be.

850 (950, 1000, 1100) (1150, 1250, 1400) (1500, 1600) m / 930 (1040, 1100, 1210) (1260, 1370, 1540) (1650, 1750) yds of fingering or light fingering weight yarn. I used John Arbon Harvest Hues 4ply (33% Bluefaced Leicester, 33% Falklands Merino, 33% Zwartbles, 400 m / 437 yds in 100 g) in the Woad colourway.

The same amount of lace weight yarn. I used Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair (57% mohair, 28% silk, 15% wool, 212 m / 232 yds in 25 g) in the Regatta Blue (6044) colourway.

MEASUREMENTS

Finished circumference at bust:

39.75 (43.5, 47.5, 51.5) (55.5, 60, 64) (68, 72) inches

Ease: + 20-30 cm / 8-12 inches

MEDIDAS
