A “loaf cat” refers to the way cats sit with their paws and tail tucked beneath their body, resembling a loaf of bread! My kids were thrilled when they saw I’d designed a cat like this, it sits perfectly on their desk.

Loaf Cat is an easy amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. You can simply use any yarn, make it as big and squishy as you like! My Loaf Cat is approx. 11cm tall.

You will need:

• 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
• 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted > 25g of TAN, less for BEIGE, WHITE and PINK
• BLACK and WHITE embroidery thread
• A pair of 8mm safety eyes
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Polyester toy stuffing
• Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

• Amigurumi is usually worked in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
• When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
• Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
• Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Loaf Cat is approx. 11cm tall.
• There are 2 stitches used to create the corners for the square which you may not use often – 3sc and sc3tog.
• I’ve used Ricorumi DK cotton in the following: o TAN = colour 055 Beige o BEIGE = colour 061 Ivory o WHITE = colour 002 Cream o PINK = colour 021 Salmon
