This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawlette. It is knit in the Estonian fashion, and there are two methods of making the “nupps” contained within the pattern, neither of which requires turning of the work. The shawlette measures 68 inches at the widest points across the top and is 22 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the lace weight yarns, and is knit on size 5 (U.S.) needles. The crescent shape is accomplished using short rows, rather than “wrap and turn.”

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The shawlette was expertly test knitted by Barbara Robertson, who can be contacted at: Barb. Robertson@ gmail.com, and is known on Ravelry as NanaKnits4Us. The yarn used in the sample is Helen’s Lace by Lorna’s Laces in colorway, Grapevine.
