The shape of cables reminds me of relationships and where this pattern is concerned, it reminds me of the friendship between my mother, Rodina (Dean) and her best friend, Lori.

Lori and Dean have been best friends since they were seven years old. They were thick and thieves all throughout their school years, were each other’s bridesmaids and had their first children (myself and my good friend Sarah) less than two months apart. Even though their lives took them to different places, they always made time for phone calls and visits whenever they could. When they managed to get together it was hilarious to watch. It was like they were in their own little world, one where the rules were laugh constantly, fondly reminisce about years past and enthusiastically share details of their present lives.

Early this year, Lori passed away and with her went a part of my mother’s heart. As time went on and the grief started to subside, that void began to fill with fond memories, endless stories, conversations with Lori’s husband and children and with the knowledge that even though she wasn’t there in person, Lori will always have a place in her heart.
This hat was inspired by their friendship. Their paths would cross and separate throughout they years, but they were always together.

I hope you enjoy the pattern.
