Love from the 45th Parallel cowl
Pattern coming soon!!
This cowl is a companion to the Love from the 45th Parallel shawl and features the same mosaic stitch pattern. The construction is different: the first section is worked flat, then a small number of stitches are cast off and the piece is joined in the round to form the neck.
The project uses two colours. Strong contrast is recommended, but you can adjust to your own palette. The pattern is written for 2 × 40 g / 140 m balls of Countrywide Yarns Purrino (merino–possum blend). Other soft merino or wool DK/8‑ply blends will work — you’ll need approximately 150 m of each colour.
The mosaic motif is inspired by Eastern European designs. Only one colour is used at a time (the Active Colour), which may be Colour A or Colour B depending on the row. Both written instructions and charts are included.
The first section is worked flat (back and forth) on 4 mm / US 6 needles; circulars are recommended to accommodate the stitch count. When the work is joined in the round for the neck, switch to 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles.
If you want to knit the whole project flat, and not quite sure how to do it, please message me so I can help you make the adjustments needed.
