Wrap yourself in elegance with this large lacy shawl. The ‘Love Is…’ shawl is perfect for special occasions or as a treasured gift for someone dear to you. Its romantic design combines delicate all-over lace with heart motifs, and the subtle sparkle of beads in the feathered lace border.
The shawl begins with a 4-row lace stitch pattern, which quickly becomes intuitive after a few repeats. The lace then evolves into full heart shapes that join together in a garland across the middle of the shawl, each heart connected by a single shimmering bead.
As you close off the hearts, feathered columns of stitches flow towards the border, accented by the occasional bead. These beads not only give a subtle sparkle to your shawl but also add a little weight which results in a luxurious drape.
I would recommend a smooth, solid or tonal colour for this shawl so that the lacework can take centre stage. A yarn with a mix of silk will also add a soft sheen and a touch of luxury.
Wear the shawl draped gracefully over your shoulders for a special occasion, or to add an opulent sparkle to your everyday wardrobe. It’s incredibly versatile, you might say, Love is…the shawl you need!
If you are new to adding beads to your knitting, a video tutorial for adding beads with a crochet hook can be found here: https://www.undertheolivetreeknits.com/adding-beads.html

Pattern Testimonials
“This is one of the most beautiful shawls I have knitted. The graphs were clear and the lace made the shawl. Everyone who saw it being blocked fell in love with it. Thank you for designing such a beautiful work of art” – Pat
“Beautiful shawl for every day/occasion, easy to follow pattern and a joy to wear” – Jayne
“This beautiful shawl is a fusion of lacework and beadwork. Capturing three quite different lacework techniques, the last two incorporating beadwork, finishing off with a picot edge. A carefully written and curated pattern, explanations, and videos by Jem Arrowsmith ~ Under the Olive Tree Knits. Another fine example for a beginner or advanced knitter who will certainly enjoy this design“ - Lisa
“I loved knitting this shawl and watching each element of the pattern grow. It will definitely be used on my next holiday but it is the perfect accessory to put in my bag when I go out” Alison
“A most interesting pattern with three different lace sections which maintains interest. There were a large number of stitches as the shawl developed, so not for the faint-hearted! However, the finished shawl is beautiful – well worth the effort. If you are looking for a relaxing challenge, this could be the pattern for you” – Fiona
“An absolutely beautiful shawl that would make a lovely gift for a special person” – Gail
