The Arclinen Low Key Cardigan is a top-down cardigan worked from the upper back. The back neck shaping and shoulders are formed separately, and stitches are picked up along the shoulder line so the sleeves are worked simultaneously.

Since the piece begins from the back and the back neck is shaped in a bottom-up manner, you can achieve a rounded back neck that is typically difficult to create in standard top-down construction. Picking up stitches from the cast-on edge of the back also creates a horizontal line across the back as a design feature.

Because the sleeves are worked together without picking up additional stitches later, the stitch pick-up process is minimized. Only one yarn break is required when constructing the shoulders, reducing complexity.
