In the facebook group ‘Mosaic Crochet World’ I participated in a designer challenge to create a square as a lucky charm for 2021. What better symbol to represent luck but a shamrock with 4 petals? And what better color to represent hope than blue? That’s how I came up with this design, a ‘Lucky Shamrock’, to give us hope that 2021 will be a year that brings us all together again after the pandemic of 2020.

This tile is crocheted in mosaic overlay technique, in the round. This implies that there are no numerous ends to fasten off, just two for each color used. The technique is not difficult, just pay close attention to the stitch placement in the chart.

Lucky Shamrock is made in 20 rounds, starting with a magic circle. Stitches used are (all in US terms): slip stitch, chain stitch, half double crochet, single crochet in back loop only, double crochet in front loop only.

Each tile that is made with DK weight yarn (115-130 m per 50 g skein) will measure about 25 cm and weigh about 40-48 g.

Acrylic yarns, cottons or a mixed fiber all will work well.

This tile can be combined with other tiles I designed to create a big throw, blanket or bedspread. Look for those tiles in my Ravelry store. If you choose to use this tile as a stand-alone, you could end with an extra round of sl st in BLO, which Nina Mayer did in her photo.

The pattern includes a chart, written instructions and photos to illustrate certain stitches or techniques.
