Madame Defarge
I was inspired to go back to my school day English and History classes when I first worked this design in the lovely verdigris colour. Verdigris is of French origin of course, and I’ve had a long-term interest in all things related to the French Revolution, not the least of which is the wonderful novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. One very strong character in the novel, Madame Defarge knits, not so much as a past time, but to record the names of those who are to be executed. I hope you will enjoy this design. It is not difficult, despite having totally different front and back design elements.
The pattern features two size options - small {65 stitches} and medium {73 stitches}.
Suggested gauge has been measured using 2.25mm needles over stocking stitch.
Most fingering weight yarns that run at 400m/100g will be suitable.
Pattern instructions are mostly charted with written information provided for the basic sock construction. The charts have coloured sections for various stitch movements, so it will be advisable to print in colour, or use Knit Companion.
