Meet The Madeleine Dress!
This late 1940s inspired knitted dress is worked in both directions: you begin at the skirt waistband and work your way down. Then, you pick up stitches for the upper half and work up towards the shoulders. The sleeve cuffs and collar are picked up and worked in a contrast color in seed stitch. All in all, it is a nearly seamless dress that is fit for any occasion!

The button band is a great place to use up some of your gorgeous vintage buttons, but the button band itself is fake! It is still created as a three dimensional band, but there are no openings, no closures. Meaning there is no gaping at the fronts, and you can play with buttons to your heart’s content!

The dress is worked in a heavy fingering weight yarn, though you could also get away with a sport weight if you’d like to make the knitting move a little faster. While the lighter yarn makes for a slower knit, it also makes for an all-year-round dress, with incredibly breathable fabric. And yes, knitting a dress does take more time than a sweater, but the finished result is worth it!
