I am pleased to present the Resort Top! This 1930s inspired pattern is worked up in an all over lace stitch that is cool and breathable even on the warmest summer days. It features a horizontally ribbed waistband, a relaxed fit around the body, and some adorable button details at the bottom and top of the garment!

This pattern in many ways is a great option for a beginner Squid School pattern. You only need five measurements from your Body Measurement Chart, there is no waist shaping, and no setting in sleeves. There are some unusual challenging bits to keep the knit interesting, though. The pick up around the waistline will be to a specific number instead of a ratio-based pick up, but there are different options included in the pattern for how to go about doing this. In order to keep the neck from widening over time, the squared neckline is created by applying a horizontal ribbed piece. This makes for a lovely and unique finished look, but does take some concentration to apply the neckline piece correctly. Apart from these items, the Resort Top works up in a jiffy, just in time for summer weather to peak!

Like always, my garment patterns use a body measurement x gauge system of pattern writing, making them fully size inclusive and tailored to your personal measurements.
Due to this unconventional method of instruction, patterns are available at the Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting at Patreon, and not for individual sale. There are a plethora of resources at Squid School to get you started on this method of pattern instruction (it’s not as scary as it sounds!)
