Additional Note for Yarn: Designer chose to use {slightly} less than one (1) mini-skein {each 240 yds/50 g} of Jazz Handz Fusion Fiber fingering-weight 4-ply 100%-cotton wound (not spun) yarn in Tequila Sunrise, which incorporates three incremental segments -- Bright Yellow to Bright Orange, Coral to Hot Pink, and Berry to Purple. (Expect no more than 20-30 yds left over.)

The Maravilla / Wonder shawlette is knit bottom-up, working from side to side, and may also be worn as a head-covering kerchief or an attractive hair wrap. Its color transitions are evocative of a rainbow, the spectrum of light that appears in the sky as a multicolored arc opposite the sun when droplets of water in the air reflect, refract, and disperse light.

The sense of awe that accompanies seeing a rainbow, whether in the mist of a waterfall, across the spray created by ocean waves, or in a half-dark cloudy sky with falling rain, is perhaps the purest experience of wonder.

More wondrous still is that, technically, no single rainbow exists, or, rather, that -- like beauty -- a rainbow exists only in the eye of the beholder. That is, there is no particular rainbow existing at a given location.

Contrarily, there are many rainbows, all existing at once, but there is just one that a particular observer can see, and which one can be seen depends on the particular observer’s viewpoint in relation to the droplets of water illuminated by the sun that constitute the rainbow for that beholder. All the water droplets do refract and reflect sunlight in the same manner, but only the light from some of them reaches the observer’s eye.

Wonder, awe, mystery … All of these were part of the world that surrounded and included the Amazons, the world to which they contributed their own wonder as well.

Be sure to view all five patterns in Themiscyra: The Paradise Island Collection … the Diana / Courage cuff for the wrist, the Thalassa / Power wrap, the Myrina in Atlantis / Grace convertible scarf-vest, the Tanllwyth / Wisdom stole, and the Maravilla / Wonder shawlette or head-covering (this pattern) … original knitting designs inspired by legendary Amazons for real women today!

(P.S. Right now, you can buy the entire Themiscyra collection for about $10 less than what you would spend buying each of the five patterns individually; that’s a savings of around 30%. Though we don’t know whether Amazons valued thrift per se, it does seem wise!)

Note Regarding Files Included in Pattern Download: In addition to the actual pattern PDF file, two more files are separately available for download -- the front matter (preface/introduction) and back matter (concerning yarn used) for the collection. Further, if desired by the purchaser, higher-resolution single-page images are available from the designer upon request for any (or all) pages of the pattern.
