Marisol began life as a scarf — its body knit sideways in Wave Stitch, a lace pattern that ripples naturally into soft, scalloped waves. A fitted yoke reshapes it into a top, with a soft V-neckline and clean, minimal seaming. The pattern includes a sleeveless version and a short-sleeve version worked top-down in the round, making it a perfect piece to wear on its own or layered over a T-shirt.
Marisol’s own eyelets double as buttonholes, so no extra buttonholes are needed to close the front. Easy to memorize and enjoyable to knit, it’s a rewarding introduction to lace for confident beginners.

CONSTRUCTION
Marisol is worked flat, in pieces, with minimal seaming. The bodice is worked first, side to side, in Wave Stitch. Once complete, stitches are picked up along the top edge of the bodice, and the back and the two front halves are worked separately from these stitches, with decreases shaping the underarms and V-neck.
The V-neck trim is incorporated as each front is worked, then left live on a holder instead of bound off.
Once the back is complete and shoulders are seamed, stitches are picked up along the back neck edge. The held front trim stitches are then worked together with these picked-up stitches to continue the border across the back neck, forming one continuous, attached neckband all the way around.
Armholes are finished with an attached band for the sleeveless version.
For a short-sleeve version, stitches are picked up around the armhole and worked top-down: short rows shape the sleeve cap, then the sleeve is worked in the round to the desired length.
The lace pattern’s eyelets double as buttonholes — no extra buttonholes needed. Each wave repeat has two eyelets stacked one above the other, a narrower one on top and a wider one below, so you can choose whichever suits your button size.
