Every Christmas when I see my torn old stocking I’d think: Next year I am making a traditional knitted stocking for myself. Finally, I wanted to knit a stocking, but I couldn’t find a pattern that suited what I was looking for—so I wrote a pattern myself! Anyone that knows me knows I love plaid, and I think this says Merry Christmas, more like Mary Christmas to you!

This stocking is knit from the top-down, folding the cuff and then working plaid colorwork straight down the top of the stocking. Once you hit the heel, you will work short rows using yarn overs and decreases (ssk’s and ssp’s) to work the heel shape. you’ll follow the same colorwork chart along the instep and work the same short rows for the toe. Finally, you’ll use Kitchener stitch to close and join the toe to the instep.

The stocking is knit with size US 9 (5.5mm) needles and yarn held double to create a sturdy stocking that will be able to hold all of the goodies inside!
