This is a 2 in 1 pattern

The pattern for Matoaka was first published in my first book, Wilderness Knits from 2019. Now I have made a thick version with round yoke for cold winter days. The sweater is knitted in Troll and/or Blåne from Hillesvåg Yarns, but you can use other yarns such as Alafosslopi if you want a water-resistant sweater.
The sweater is knitted in the round, from the bottom up. The body and sleeves are knitted separately before they are gathered on one needle. Matoaka polar is a thick sweater that can be knitted as a sweater with a short or high neck, or as a hooded version. Matoaka Polar Hoodie has a hood and extra length on the body so that you are dressed for extra cold days. Matoaka Polar should have a positive ease from 10 to 15 cm. Measure around your chest and add 10-15 cm to the width of the garment to find your size.

Size XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL)

Gauge
10 cm stockinette stitch on needle 6 (6,5) 6 (6,5) 6 (6,5) mm= 14 (13) 14 (13) 14 (13) stitches
10 cm stranded knitting on needle 7 (7,5) 7 (7,5) 7 (7,5) mm= 14 (13) 14 (13) 14 (13) stitches

(The needlesize is only a guideline. If you get a gauge with more than the provided stitches you should switch to a bigger needle size. If you get a gauge with less than the provided stitches you should switch to a smaller needle size. You should make a swatch to check the gauge before starting to knit the garment, as everyone knits differently, and if you choose an alternative yarn it might behave differently).

Yarn: Troll and/or Blåne from Hillesvåg Yarns. You can also use Alafosslopi. Alafosslopi is a thicker yarn than Troll and Blåne so you might have to reduce the needle size.

The amount of yarn you need: For the polar hoodie version (with hood and extra length), you need approx. 150 grams extra of the main colour.
