This listing is for the original Olann knitting pattern for the Maud Hat.

Maud is ultra cozy and luxurious. Knit using fluffy yarn, the hat is quadruple thick over the forehead and ears, making it the perfect hat for cold and windy days. This is a dreamy hat to wear, and offers flexibility to wear it slouchy, or turned up as much or as littles as you like. Its fun construction will have you knitting this design many times!

This is an intermediate level knitting pattern that uses a Provisional Cast-on.

Finished Measurements

Circumference = 9.75 (12.5, 14) 16.75, 18, 19.5 inches/25 (32, 35.5) 42.5, 45.5, 49.5 cm

Length when folded in half = 9.5 (10.75, 11.5) 12, 12.75, 13.5 inches/24 (27.5, 29) 30.5, 32.5, 34.5 cm

Gauge

11.5 STS and 17 RNDS in Stockinette Stitch on 8 mm (US 11) needles = 4x4 inches/10x10 cm

Suggested Needles and Notions

16 inch/40 cm 8mm (US 11) circular needles.

Five 8mm (US 11) DPNS.

7 – 8mm crochet hook.

Or alternative needle sizes to obtain gauge.

Magic Loop can be used as an alternative to knit this design.

Optional notions: Smooth scrap yarn, such as cotton. Stitch marker, locking stitch marker, darning needle, row counter.

Yardage

Approximately 118 (170, 205) 256, 296, 333 yd/108 (155, 187) 234, 271, 304 m of worsted weight mohair.

Suggested materials

Two strands of Katia Ingenua (1.75 oz/50 g = 153 yd/140 m) held together.

Yarn substitutions can include any other weight fluffy or brushed yarn, held together to get gauge, including mohair, wool, alpaca and silk. Note that depending on the yarn you chose, you may hold fewer or more strands together to get gauge.
